7 Personal Development Essentials

7 Personal Development Essentials

The sixth pillar of the 10 pillars of life (that I coach my clients on) is the Personal Development Pillar.

Per·son·al de·vel·op·ment:

Activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance the quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations

Rock-Climbing-Sport-orig1. We MUST improve ourselves. We can only achieve what we believe in. Hence if we lack belief in ourselves we lack what it takes to accomplish the desires of our hearts. How do you do this? Let’s break it down.

2. To climb you have to be equipped with the right mindset to start with. You have to be mentally strong to climb the mountains of your life.

3. You need the right tools. The journey of your life can be treacherous at times. Without the right tools to overcome these obstacles you will be left as bait dangling in mid-air with no way to get your footing.

4. Lastly, you need the right activity. Faith without work is a recipe for failure. Meaning you can have all the desire, all the passion, all the motives, but without activity (if you do nothing about it) you’ll have nothing to show for it but a good idea. This is where the couldda shouldda woulddas come from.  Sure you could have, you should have, you would have but you DIDN’T.

5. Take inventory

6. Discover yourself

  • Are you satisfied with where your life it at?
  • Can you do something about it? Why? How?
  • In what way can you increase your abilities? What is your first step to do so?
  • What do you believe you can do now that you are determined to accomplish?
  • What tools do you need that you are lacking?
  • What is your level of identity and self-awareness? How can you increase both?

7. Brain dump

Take 15 minutes to capture all that is going through your mind and brain dump every idea, thought, understanding, answer that you came up with. The more you document this the better you can problem solve and work out how you can address your personal development and take the steps to grow. Get strong, live strong.
